new years day sunrise prayer relay 2016 Surfers paradise - Queensland - Australia
Thanks for the report, Amazing response. Yes, imagine what could happen with 12 months of planning!
We bravely suggested Surfers Paradise because that is where we were at New Year after the death of my sister who lived there. I did some invites through Facebook but didn't expect anyone to join us.
We were amazed when we got there at 4.30 that it was already light even though the sun hadn't risen. We certainly didn't need a torch! And there were people everywhere. Most obviously had been partying all night; some were sleeping on the beach. We stood alone on the beach. I wish I had brought a banner or something in case someone was looking for a prayer rather than a pick-up!!
Then a friend arrived who wasn't a Christian. Clouds covered the sunrise but then we momentarily saw the sun rising so we read the Declaration together. Then I asked David and Linda what I could pray for them and we did that especially praying for our adult children. We dedicated them and ourselves to God for 2016.
After praying we went walking/running and then met for coffee and fellowship with others who normally do this on a Friday morning.
